Search outpaced social for referral traffic last year, driving 35% of site visits vs social’s 26% share of visits

After a year fraught with terms like “fake news,” and headlines centering around brand safety issues and extreme content, it appears the actions taken by social sites to curb the influx of malicious content is turning out to be a real boon for search referral traffic.

Keyword infringement: Edible Arrangements files $209M trademark suit against Google

Google is being sued in federal district court in Connecticut by the company behind Edible Arrangements for trademark infringement and unfair competition. The central claim is that when users search for “Edible Arrangements” (or versions of that name), they’re seeing product ads for competitors, such as 1-800-Flowers.

Google To Port All Old Search Console Features To New Version

On a daily basis I see complaints around the new beta Search Console which began rolling out recently about how it is missing many of the features from the old version. Google is aware of these complaints and is not removing the old version anytime soon. They even posted a survey asking about which features you like or dislike so they can continue to improve it.

Google has dropped its support for the news meta keywords tag. Google introduced the new meta keywords tag specifically for news publishers back in 2012 and quietly stopped supporting it months ago.

The best indication of this new approach is immediately apparent from the start screen.
